Founder's Story

Darnell Henderson was serving in the U.S. Navy when he discovered the need for quality men’s skincare. The requirement to shave daily, combined with grueling physical and mental demands, left his skin looking inflamed and irritated. As a fit and ambitious young man, this was not the image he wanted to present. Determined to find a solution, he set out to develop products and routines that would allow men to look and feel their best.

Darnell understood that countless other men faced similar skin challenges but often did not know where to begin. After returning to civilian life, he immersed himself in skincare research while receiving regular facials and professional treatments. Through this experience, he discovered a growing world of men’s skincare and learned that men’s skin and lifestyle needs often differ significantly from women’s. Working alongside some of the most accomplished chemists and skincare experts in the industry, Darnell began curating male-specific ingredients and treatment protocols that would ultimately become the foundation of H.I.M.-istry.

In 2004, Darnell officially launched Healthy Image Men (H.I.M.) Grooming Center, where clients could experience facials, hot towel shaves, and customized skincare treatments designed specifically for men. The results spoke for themselves. Men experienced healthier skin and improved shaving outcomes with H.I.M.-istry Naturals™ products—results they often could not achieve with traditional unisex skincare products. Over the years, H.I.M.-istry Naturals™ has partnered with nationally recognized retailers and marketplaces, including Nordstrom and Amazon.

Today, Darnell’s vision continues to evolve. Recently becoming a father has strengthened his commitment to ingredient integrity and environmental responsibility. More mindful than ever about the products he uses and the legacy he leaves behind, he has become increasingly selective about the ingredients that go into every H.I.M.-istry Naturals™ formula. This renewed focus has led the brand to prioritize high-performance, naturally derived ingredients while continually evaluating more sustainable packaging solutions that reduce environmental impact without compromising quality.
